Tummy Tuck

Surgery to tighten the abdominal wall, or as it is more commonly known – a “tummy tuck”, is a procedure used to make the abdomen thinner and firmer by removing excess skin and fat. Many women, especially after childbirth, suffer from loose skin, excess fat and slack muscles around the abdomen, resulting in a sagging and unattractive appearance.

Abdominoplasty

Abdominoplasties are usually performed under general anesthesia and require a day or two in the hospital. Before the surgery, the patient undergoes a series of tests to verify her health. Imaging is also needed to document the shape of her abdomen before surgery.

Abdominoplasty involves separating the skin from the abdominal wall in the area between the pelvis and the ribs. Abdominal muscles are then tightened with sutures and the skin is reattached after all excess skin and fat have been removed. The navel is repositioned.

Abdominoplasties may also involve liposuction, when there is a large buildup of fat in the abdominal skin.

The scar following an abdominoplasty will be located on the lower part of the abdomen, above the pelvic bone.

This usually makes it possible to conceal the scar beneath underwear or a swimsuit, so that there are no indications of surgery.

Following an abdominoplasty, you should rest at home for a few days by lying down in bed or sitting in a comfortable armchair with your legs bent toward your stomach.
Also, a compression garment is recommended to provide support for the stomach, and should be worn for about one month.

Abdominoplasties may be performed in addition to other procedures for reshaping the breasts (breast reduction, breast augmentation or breast lift) and/or together with liposuction to give the entire body a more aesthetic, attractive and even appearance.

Side Effects

Side effects such as a surgical scar, changes in the appearance of the navel, lack of sensation to varying degrees, especially around the lower abdomen, may accompany this procedure.
In addition, infection, skin wounds or accumulation of blood beneath the skin are also possible.
These are rare for abdominoplasties, can be easily treated and usually subside without leaving any mark.

Note that over time, even after an abdominoplasty, the skin may become loose due to natural biological processes, or as a result of weight gain, weight loss, or pregnancy.

Abdominoplasties are very common and provide good results, significantly improving appearances and quality of life.
